  • Battery backup keeps white noise running during power outages
  • Built-in clock display visible in the dark nursery
  • Same great time-to-rise feature for toddlers as the regular Rest
  • App lets you create custom schedules for naps, bedtime, and wake-up

What could be better

  • Costs $20 more than the regular Hatch Rest for essentially two upgrades
  • Wi-Fi setup can be finicky, especially on mesh networks
  • Some premium sounds require a paid subscription

Safety notes

Keep the power cord at least 3 feet from the crib. Place on a stable surface out of baby's reach. The night light is cool to the touch. UL certified. Battery backup is lithium-ion and should not be exposed to extreme heat.

Buying guide notes

If you're buying your first Hatch, just get the Rest+ and skip the regular Rest. The battery backup alone justifies the extra cost. If you already have the regular Rest and it works fine, you don't need to upgrade. The Yogasleep Dohm is better for pure white noise quality, but it has no smart features or light.

Overview

Our full take

If you already know the Hatch Rest, the Rest+ is the same concept with two upgrades that actually matter. First, Wi-Fi means you can control it from anywhere, not just when you're in Bluetooth range. So you can adjust the white noise from the kitchen, from the car, or from a date night across town. Second, it has a battery backup that lasts about 8 hours. When the power goes out at 2am (and it will, eventually), the white noise doesn't suddenly stop and wake your baby. We learned this the hard way with the original Hatch during a thunderstorm. Everything else is the same as the regular Rest: app-controlled sound, light, color, time-to-rise feature for toddlers. The battery backup alone is worth the price difference if you live somewhere with unreliable power. You also get a real clock display on the front, which is nice in a dark room. The subscription for premium sounds is optional and the free library is honestly good enough. Is the $20 premium over the regular Rest worth it? If you've got Wi-Fi dead zones or frequent power blips, absolutely.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Rest+ do beyond white noise?+

It's a sound machine, a color night light, and a time-to-rise OK-to-wake clock in one, controlled from your phone or by voice. That combo is why it outlasts a plain sound machine as your child grows into toddlerhood.

Does it need WiFi or a subscription?+

It connects over WiFi for app control, but the core sound and light work without it. There's an optional paid membership for extra content you don't need for the everyday features.

Is it good for toddler sleep training?+

Yes, that's its edge. You set the light to turn green at wake time so a toddler learns when it's OK to get up. For a newborn, a simpler machine like the Yogasleep Dohm is plenty.
